You know the saying, "while the cat's away, the mice will play." Well this weekend that is me. My beloved husband is in Reno for a big construction management competition that will hopefully land him a job after college. Glad my man's working hard! Meanwhile I am working, but also watching +10 hours a day of Pretty Little Liars... Don't judge.
Not only am I binge watching all I can of this new show, I'm keeping my hands busy as well. Who doesn't like days where you can craft and create to your hearts content? That is precisely my life for the 4 days that Forrest is gone.
Lately I've been feeling like gold. (que Macklemore's song "gold") Pinterest has been giving me very reasonable ideas of upgrading my cheap college furnishings and decor. My crafting adventure starts at Walmart. There I bought the liquid gold that would turn my wildest dreams into reality. I know I sound like a freak... But I was really excited. I walked out of the doors with some gold spray paint and painting tape.
Now, my trip to DI, formally known as Deseret industries. Here in little Rexburg land this is our Goodwill. Even though it can be thoroughly picked over by ultra hipster college students you will sometimes find hidden treasures. Here I headed to the book section... Not much caught my fancy there. Then onto the kitchen supplies. There I saw two mugs as cute as can be. I plucked up those little puppies and continued on my journey. I looked for a wall clock I could transform, but none seemed to beat the clock we got there previously. Then I looked for some jars for decor. Not much there but one little fella to add to a collection. I was looking for a desk or table or something big to transform to add to our second bedroom or dining room but no such luck. I did however find an 80s looking suitcase. It's was gray, good sized, and full if potential. I snagged this right away and made my way home.
So after 8 hours of painting and watching pretty little liars I have some gold pieces that are as cute as can be. Take a look!
These are my too cute cups. They didn't need a make over because of their charming honeycomb design, but a little gold can't hurt, right?
These are some of the finished products. Left- a pot I got from Ross for 4 dollars twp years ago, now gold. Center- those little cups again! Right- my new travel/temple suitcase. I was going to paint it all gold, but then I decided to have a little fun with it. Luckily the original color looks great with the gold!
I also painted my clock, an soon to come the back of my bookcase!
